The Problem
A variant of the classic pirate puzzle. Five pirates (A, B, C, D, E in descending seniority) must divide 100 gold coins. The most senior pirate proposes a split; if at least half (including herself) accept, the split passes. Otherwise she walks the plank and the next senior pirate proposes. Pirates are rational: they prefer more gold to less, and prefer to throw a proposer overboard if indifferent (i.e., they'll vote no if they get the same from this proposal as from the next pirate's).
